How to Enjoy the Liverpool Waterfront and my Mini Review of The Pullman Hotel!
(This is not a paid or promoted post, it is purely my experience, love and enthusiasm for the Liverpool waterfront and city as a whole.)
Who says local trips for whatever reason, can’t be fun? Our love of the Liverpool Waterfront has got me out of hibernation today!
I don’t know about you, but I love to see what other people say about a destination, location, accommodation or attraction. More so if I am planning a trip in that area! It is with this thought that I decided to share my experiences. So that you can have a feel of what to do, where to eat, sleep, have fun etc. if you ever visit this Northern English city!
Plus, it’s been a while, I have missed you guys…! The last time we really had a good chinwag was when I shared places to visit in Delhi, the amazing Taj Mahal, Relaxing in Pune and the Mughal era Monuments!
Since we are looking at our local neighbourhood, lets reacquaint ourselves shall we!
Allow me to share with you a snippet of what the Liverpool waterfront has to offer! And the amazing Pullman hotel of course. If you ever decide to visit the Liverpool waterfront, with a few days to spare, in addition to giving Pkjulesworld a shout out for some proper Scouse and afro-british chow. You should head to the docks area.
So, how did I came to stay at this awesome piece of waterfront real estate even though we live in Liverpool? 🙂 Well we love stay-cations too, esp. weekenders and quick getaways to rebond! And…
You see, I do a lot of work related travel and business trips to meet clients. And when I do, I am expected to be where the client is!
On this occasion just last week, I headed to Liverpool’s waterfront at the Albert Docks to meet with visiting clients. After checking it out via our Travel portal, we decided to book the 4-star Pullman Liverpool Hotel. For our clients and the team meeting them, I was part of this team.
The Pullman, is located at the Kings Dock along Liverpool’s Mersey river waterfront.
It is conveniently located, just a 5-minute from the Albert Dock. It adjoins the newly constructed state of the art Exhibition Center Liverpool and just 3-minutes’ walk away from the Echo Arena. In close proximity to the BT Convention Center and the Liverpool Big Wheel, you would be spoilt for choice which attraction to start with.
By the way, none of the above places should even sniff your list of what not to do in Liverpool!
There are several top end apartment buildings including the Mersey Waterfront Apartments. Great for the corporate executive for longer stays. You could check Airbnb if one is available and you will get $25 credit if you use this link!

How to Get to the Liverpool Waterfront and the Pullman:
There are great transport links to the Liverpool Waterfront and Docks area. There are also connections for taxis, buses and trains. Liverpool Lime Street Train Station is literally a 20 Minute walk away from the Docks. Of course, you could take an Uber as well.
If you fly in direct to Liverpool, then you could use the Airport Bus/Shuttle from John Lennon Airport to the city centre for about £3.
Flew in to Manchester? You might have to grab a taxi from Manchester airport for circa £45. Or take the train to Liverpool from Manchester, or have a Friend pick you up!
The Liverpool City Bus Station is a stone throw from the Albert Docks. Check the Arriva Bus website for bus times table and the various areas it serves! You could buy a Day’s bus pass for specific areas for less than £3! This bus station is located right beside the Liverpool 1 Shopping centre. Talking of which…
Where to Spend some Moolah at the Liverpool Waterfront:
For those who love stylish and cutting-edge shopping, Liverpool One, The Met Quarter and St Johns Shopping Center are all only 10 minutes. All these shopping establishments stay till open till after 8pm.
Plus, the various high street shops, restaurants, not forgetting the Odeon cinema located in Liverpool 1 for your movie fix!
Or you can shop right at the Albert Dock. It is located in Liverpool’s UNESCO designated World Heritage waterfront with several Grade I listed buildings and various key attractions. Remember the Beatles Story from our post on Christmas in Liverpool? Well its located in the epicenter of the Docks! You can buy authentic Liverpool and Beatles memorabilia at this retail establishment and tourist attraction!
Are you in Love with Art and Culture?
Then you will love what the Liverpool waterfront offers! It is home to various Docks and close to various amenities that I shall share with you in a moment!
The docks are home to various art and culture sites. With the International Slavery Museum, and more famous collections in the Tate Liverpool. So if you are visiting Liverpool, your artistic cup will be fed to overflowing, before you even step further out to see, do and be more in this amazing city we call home!
Be mesmerised by the Liverpool maritime heritage #visitliverpool #meetpkjulesworld Click To Tweet
I can tell you that I am as mesmerised by the Liverpool maritime heritage as I was when I first came to Liverpool over 20 yrs. ago! (Telling my age now aren’t I, Shh lets keep it our secret.) The buildings along the waterfront are steeped in jaw dropping history and I fell in love with the architecture, all those years ago!
Every summer for the last 5 or so years, we have Tall ships coming into Liverpool. And putting on a show. There is also a full-on show where battle ships dock on the docklands and we have amazing evening shows, fireworks, family shows, the works!
We do get massive cruise liners too. The most celebrated being the two Cunard Queen Marys, which anchored in the docks last year. It was super exciting to see these two-awesome works of engineering in the same place for the Cunard Line 175 Anniversary celebrations! And to be able to get on these massive ships, our son was like…Phwoah I wanna go on a cruise, this is paradise lol!

What’s so Special about the Pullman Hotel on the Liverpool Waterfront?
The Rooms:
The Pullman hotel holds a coveted spot on Liverpool’s waterfront and docks and it offers:
- superior rooms,
- deluxe rooms with double beds and also
- a floor of executive rooms with exclusive lounge access.
My room was a deluxe, approx. 29 square meters in area, it was very spacious. I had enviable views of the Mersey River and the Liverpool Waterfront skyline. Plus unobstructed views of the Liverpool Eye and the Liver Buildings.
I also had access to tea making facilities and snacks.
The room was well presented with a huge flat screen television, a sitting area across the full wall-width window, a comfortable king-size bed with cushy pillows and a nice clean modern bathroom. I like all other guests/rooms also had access to complimentary, high-speed, Wi-Fi. Great for working on my presentation and access to my emails and documents!
Other Amenities:
Other amenities include the Pullman Fitness Lounge, where one can have quick workout for the day. I had a quick 25-minute work out to recover from the day’s stresses. And to maintain my fitness regime.
Guests do have access to a treadmill, exercise bikes, latest-generation cardio and weight-lifting equipment.
Culinary Delights- Yay or Nay?
Evening meals are served in the hotel’s Dukes Restaurant. I had a quick look around. it serves a modern British menu together with wines and signature cocktails that can be obtained from the bar.
However, I opted to head further out and check out some new restaurants around the Albert Dock. There are several pubs and clubs and restaurants within walking distance of the Pullman along Liverpool’s waterfront. Some colleagues and I went chose to dine at the Gusto Liverpool restaurant and bar. It is located close to the Albert Dock entrance and it overlooks the Tate Gallery.
It was very busy that night. Gusto is apparently very popular with group meals and parties. It specializes in Italian, European and British cuisine. The meal was great and the service was wonderful I highly recommend Gusto Liverpool!
After the meal, we went over to the bar section to crown the night with some drinks.
Yay to the #Liverpoolwaterfront @GustoRestaurant food! #traveltips #wheretoeat Click To Tweet
So yay to the Liverpool waterfront Gusto Restaurant food!
Breakfast Ahoy:
The following morning, I had a lip-smacking complimentary breakfast served in the lobby area. There was a wide variety for most tastes. A choice of beverages including teas, hot chocolate and coffee.
I had a cooked breakfast with: eggs, hash brown, bacon and tomatoes. The Pullman topped it all off with fresh juice, toasted bread, a muffin, cereal, fruits and yogurt. Suffice to say you won’t get hungry during your day activities around Liverpool with the Pullman Breakfast!
This hotel is faultless with its contemporary design. The staff were very friendly, polite and professional. They made the process of checking in and out effortless.
The contemporary design of the lobby area on the ground floor provides the right atmosphere for relaxing and socialising with colleagues. There is a nearby secure car park for overnight parking just outside the hotel.
Plus, the Pullman Liverpool Hotel is great for both R&R and business stays! And I definitely highly recommend it and would stay again. It is my plan to bring my Syl and the children to enjoy its ambiance soonest. (Shh it’s a surprise.) 😉
Don’t Liverpudlians have any Fun?
Well, what do you call all the above?
Remember this was a business visit mid-week, so we didn’t “go out.” Unless you call having an after-dinner drink in a cool pub that! Yes. Let’s call it that shall we! 🙂
For the young at heart though, Liverpool city never sleeps, its awake 24/7. Head on to the city Victoria Street area and you will understand what I mean. Clubs are open till 3am.
Pubs are open till late. And believe it or not, you can walk into the majority of clubs FREE! What?
Well, Liverpool is a university city (we have 3 Universities and Several Colleges.) So, clubs do make money on the large volume of drinks sold!
Head on to the Bold street area and shake what your mama gave ya for free. Drinks on You! We Liverpool folk are pretty friendly and welcoming. So, you won’t feel too lonely if you are a Solo traveller!
In conclusion, I give the Liverpool Waterfront a Huge Thumbs up!
I also highly recommend that you add the Liverpool Waterfront and surrounds to your travel bucket list. You will enjoy it with friends and family due to all the above reasons. Don’t you think?
Enjoy my views of the Liverpool Waterfront in Technicolor below! Yes, you are most welcome! 😉

You make it sound so good Julie. You had me at tall ships, I would love to see them come in. I like looking at cruise ships too, although I can see them from my lounge room, especially at night when they are all lit up, I imagine all the excited people on board setting off on their adventure.
