Well to be honest Julie & I travel for business and pleasure a heck of a lot and I really would like to encourage you to start envisioning you seeing more of the world in anyway you can, business trips inclusive! So in this post….

Tyneside Newcastle Upon Tyne in UK was the object of my business trip and curiosity. We always like to find the fun anywhere we go however short the visit. Thus I looked for what can one do in Tyneside New Castle other than simply drop in sleep and go…

Where To stay in Tyneside Newcastle – IHG Staybridge Suites a Brief Review

I travelled to Newcastle earlier last week on a business trip. I’ve heard good things about the Quayside, Tyne Bridge and Millennium Bridge in Tyneside Newcastle for a while, and decided to book a place to stay as close to these locations as possible.

The Amazing Millennium Bridge by Quayside!

I was pleased to find accommodation at the Staybridge Suites, Part of the Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG).  This four star (4*) hotel is conveniently located close to the Universities of Northumbria and Newcastle.

The suites are so conveniently & strategically located for site-seeing in Tyneside Newcastle or a quick business trip its not even funny. 🙂 They’re near the Quayside, only a 15 min walk from the shopping area in Eldon Square and from a bustling nightlife in the city-centre.  It is within walking distance from the Millennium Bridge which you can easily cross to get to the Baltic Centre and the futuristic Sage Gateshead.  Newcastle International Airport is only a 15 minutes drive away and it is about 10 minutes from Newcastle Central rail station.

Well I chose to drive to Newcastle after all its only approx. 3 hrs away from Liverpool with good traffic conditions! I didn’t feel like spending another 3 hours on airport check in etc etc.

I parked in the hotel’s secure car park which is charged at £8 per night, Frankly I usually park for free, yet an extra 8 quid for security sounds fair dos.  I checked in at the front desk where I received a warm welcome.  The check-in process was quick and I was given the access card to my room. And was pleasantly surprised…

For the package I had paid for, I hadn’t expected what I received for a quick visit…When I entered my room, I was pleasantly surprised with a bottle of Prosecco wine and a box of milk chocolates.  At this moment, I thought about my Julie, I grabbed my phone and video called her to share this treat. I should have come with her for some R & R but hey next time!!!…Shhhs don’t tell her lol! By the way The longer you stay the less you pay…Pocket Friendly or what!

My Room, The Accommodation cont.

The room was very spacious and about 8m by 4.5m, with plenty of natural light and great ambiance. To be honest it was like a lil mini suite! It was set out as a stunningly modern Studio or One-bedroom flat with all the basic self-catering amenities one would need i.e. a fully fitted kitchen, cooker, fridge, dishwasher, with pans, plates and cutlery all provided. There were free facilities for making beverages and snacks. It surely felt like another home away from home. It is ideal for a few days or long stay in the city (for business or leisure) especially if you don’t want to spend every evening in a pub or restaurant. You have the flexibility of bringing or buying your own food and preparing it to your taste.

The room was well presented with a flat screen television, a sofa settee, a comfortable king-size bed with cushy pillows and a nice clean modern bathroom.  One has the flexibility of choosing the right level of house-keeping to suit their needs.  I was intrigued by the level of sound-proofing, you could not hear any noises outside your room and this gave me a good chance to rest without disturbance.

Don’t you just hate thin cardboard hotel room walls where you can hear the neighbour, bang stuff, pee, scratch their poonanies, cough and throw up their ill begotten drink/dinner via the “wall telephone”… I have been to some like that! The Staybridge suites got an A* on that front

There is free, high-speed and reliable complimentary internet WiFi in the rooms and anywhere in the building. The Lobby area on the ground floor is very bright and contemporary providing the right atmosphere for relaxing and socialising with other guests, family, colleagues & staff by the warm fireplace. (It was a freezing cold day, so I loved this warm space.) There are magazines, newspapers, plus a flat screen TV to watch movies and programs. Facilities for complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate are available 24 hours.

Other amenities at the Staybridge Suites – Tyneside Newcastle!

Other amenities include a fitness centre where one can have quick workout to start or end the day with exercise. There are also complimentary guest self-service laundry facilities.

If you are interested in stocking up on groceries, there is a 24-hour Pantry on the ground floor, by the reception, where you can buy food and prepare dinner in your suite’s fully equipped kitchen.

Evening meals are served in the lobby area by the hotel kitchen staff. However, I opted to go and check out some of the restaurants in the city centre.  There are several pubs and clubs and restaurants within walking distance.  For my dinner, I walked for about 10 minutes to Dean Street which has choices of Chinese, Indian, Italian and many other restaurants.

The Pantry Behind me and The Filling Breakfast On Offer!

I took a walk to see New Castle by Night and Where to eat out on Tyneside!

I started the following morning with a scrumptious, filling, complimentary breakfast served in the Lobby area, See above (I am not a selfie person lol). There is a wide variety of choice of beverages including various flavoured teas, hot chocolate and coffee available. They also offer a cooked breakfast with eggs, hash browns, beans, bacon and tomatoes. There were different types of juice, toasted bread, muffins, cereal, fruits and yogurt. Everything you would expect from a good Breakfast when away from home!

This hotel in my humble view was faultless in its service, and trust me I have been to some number of UK hotels, I work away lots at lest twice a month! It is contemporary and meticulously clean. The staff were very friendly and they made me feel welcome.  Checking out was very quick and efficient and I was given directions to the office I was looking for by the front desk attendant.

I definitely recommend and would stay at Staybridge Suites in future. Keep up the great welcome and service Victoria and the Staybridge Suites Team. It was much appreciated. Not enough people say thank you!

    1. Thank you OPP. Make sure you explore Newcastle next time you are in UK. It’s a lovely place. Staybridge Suites make a worthy choice for one to stay. We do welcome guest bloggers 🙂

      Pauli~

  3. I’d love to stay here with my wife some day! Looks like something she would totally love! We are thinking of going on a trip this summer so this is great food for thought.

  4. This was fantastic! You make me want to jump on a plane now and go! I will have to travel vicariously through you for now though. 🙂

    1. You are most welcome Claudette. Simply follow your mind and go for it. Although I would recommend that you wait for summer time before you jump on that plane and head to Newcastle in UK to have fun. 🙂

      Pauli~

  5. Wow, stunning! I have never been to the UK but it has always been on our bucket list. The sights look pretty incredible. I have pinned this in my travel bucket! Thanks for the great post.

    1. Thank you Renee. You are most welcome to the UK especially during summer. Its great to know that this experience has inspired you to consider the visit in your bucket list 🙂

  6. I’m drooling over the Cadbury Milk Tray. They don’t make chocolate like that here in the states. What type of package did you get that they gave you a welcome gift like that?

    1. The Cadbury Milk Tray does make one drool indeed. Together with the wine, the combination made my evening. They have various offers, promotions and packages that include wine, bonus IHG loyalty card holder points, etc. It is best to get in touch with the hotel when you are ready to visit UK and Newcastle in particular.

      Pauli~

  7. That place looks so beautiful and amazing. Need to go there soon, with my family.

The Staybridge suites Sounds like A FANTASTIC accommodation when Visiting Newcastle! I Definitely like that they spent extra care in sound proofing 🙂

    1. You got it Tara, if you go visiting Newcastle, it is a place worth checking out. The sound proofing is a great bonus as you are not ditsracted by noise in the morning when people are dragging suitcases out of their rooms, or by flushing toilets 🙂

      Pauli~

    1. Lolol one of our pet hates Tara,

This is a unique thing indeed. Although noisy walls are common in 3* and below real estate we have come to find.
And also newer Hotels too! Old style hotels have thick solid walls 🙂
      PKJW~

    2. It is awesome Tara and I am on your side when it comes to sound proofing. The hotel’s sound proofing keeps out noise from rowdy late night revellers returning from clubs, noise in the morning when people are dragging suitcases out of their rooms, or by flushing toilets 🙂

      Pauli~
