We are sure many places you dream of on your bucket list, heck it was on Pkjulesworld Travel Bucket list and it is paradise with: palm trees galore, natural organic fruits; guavas, mangos, pineapples, bananas, plantain, melons…! A haven in the Caribbean tropics, this is our in-depth unbiased Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa Review…
We just returned from a Dream Vacation, something we truly believe we attracted!
Do you believe in visualizing your life, or the Law of Attraction? Well if you don’t indulge us!
We were Invited to our friends’ wedding to this #dreamdestination and we literally looked at each other and said OMG its coming to pass. See this is/was on our vision board too! The wedding destination was the Dreams La Romana Resort and Spa. This is one of the Dreams Resorts & Spas premium Global Portfolio! Others include Secrets Resorts and Spas, Zoetry Wellness & spa Resorts, Sunscape, Breathless and Now Resorts and Spas, quite some portfolio don’t you think?
Well this was our first time visiting the Dominican Republic and Dreams Resorts and to say we were excited is an understatement! We have always wanted to see the Caribbean, so unsurprisingly we jumped at the chance to go and see what it’s all about and what this 5 Star All Inclusive Resort had to offer! We did some in-depth research before our trip and shared here, how you can have a budget dream Punta Cana Vacation if you so choose! This post includes what we paid for this vacation details!
In that post we shared how we got an absolute steal on flights and the 5-star accommodation, you should truly check it out!
After a 16 hr flight from Manchester and a layover in Tampa, we finally arrived at Punta Cana International airport. We got through customs pretty fast, claimed our baggage from the ONE carousel in arrivals and got our first surprise, which we shared in the above post! You really should read it.
We were pretty pleased to see a Holiday Taxis Rep waiting for us outside in the beautiful tropical warmth. If you’ve lived in UK, you will understand why we love warm weather and seek it with religious zeal. 🙂
We were in our SUV to Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa in record time! The hotel was a smooth 45-minute drive away. We couldn’t wait to get there as we arrived past 9pm, what we saw was pretty encouraging and we couldn’t wait to explore a bit more in our 9 days in the Dominican Republic!
As our SUV pulled up to the Magnificent Resort entrance, the first thing that caught our eye was the feeling of expanse and its contemporary cutting edge design. The Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa lobby has a typical tropical & yet contemporary style with lots of reds and browns thrown in! It features a massive lattice like wooden design above the help desk that instantly grabbed our attention. We couldn’t wait to get inside and see more.
The Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa Lobby and Welcome party:
As we entered the Lobby we were welcomed with a Glass of chilled champagne…The start of things to come and service at this awesome resort…wow!
The @Dreams_LaRomana Resort & Spa lobby is refreshingly stunning, with Green palm potted plants, modern furniture, lighting and a huge ceiling decoration. It has real oil paintings on the walls, and lots of natural hard wood. The lobby is Huge. There is a separate Concierge Desk with lots of comfy seating for resort guests and a Lobby Bar that was pretty busy at our arrival! All-inclusive remember!
We were checked in in less than 5 mins flat and invited to grab a bite and drink in the Coco Café next to the lobby, or use our room mini bar or use room service!!! We were reminded that all we wanted to eat or drink was included and to enjoy! We also we were reminded to collect our $200 resort credits from the concierge desk the next day!
Did I say we had a Premium Deluxe Garden View “mini suite,” Happy days. 🙂
We walked down a lovely stone & tile walkway with lots of plants to our home away from home for the next 9 days. Up one flight of stairs (No lifts only 2 floors so we reckon disabled guests are placed on the ground floor. Lots to choose from)
As we stepped inside the massive room/suite, we noticed a welcome note addressed to us sitting on the table along with sweet refreshment, some chocolates (Hershey’s Kisses how apt), packed mini Bar, a coffee maker and lots more! So what did this look like….
Let’s first talk about our room. At the door we found a “Welcome VIP” banner strapped across the door, and a couple of other doors we had noticed! Wow!
In our room, the first impression was one of spaciousness, and welcoming, warm cool colours. And then we saw the Heart shaped Towel and Petals on the Bed! The Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa is not brand new, but by gosh its spotlessly maintained. And we could tell that the hotel works very hard at maintaining cleanliness. The rooms were no different. Everything from furniture and lighting to colours and fabrics, our room was welcoming, inductive to resting and just perfect! There was a table and chairs for just chilling out or working, a large dresser with Flat Screen TV, bags of room all round and a spacious balcony with a glass topped table and chairs. Massive wardrobes with an iron, a mini ironing board, and a branded umbrella! We wondered what for until 4 days later lol! The bed is huge perfect for a good night’s sleep. The resort offers deluxe linens, plush pillows, extra duvets, fluffy robes and slippers.
The Bathroom included modern touches, such as a marble-top vanity, with a huge shower, which we prefer in our hotel rooms. A towel rack, massive sink, a dryer and branded toiletries including hand lotion, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner, shower gel, a shoe shiner, a sewing kit, hair comb, toothbrushes, a shaver. Honestly they thought of everything one could need away from home! Not forgetting breath-taking panoramic views of the immaculate garden and pool area!
Since we wanted to give our readers a more detailed review of the Resort accommodation, we asked one of the managers named Jairo (pronounced Hairo) for a tour of other rooms on the resort! We did visit some of our friends rooms too and saw some differences in the rooms. For instance, there were extra-large family rooms with 2+ beds, his n hers sinks etc. Suites with separate sitting and bed space, and extra pillows. Suites with wider balconies and breathtaking ocean views. Mostly in the “Preferred Guests” areas for those guests who have taken out membership to the Dreams Resorts or paid an extra $60/day to enjoy preferred member facilities! To be honest there wasn’t much difference in our view! But since we did not experience what a preferred guest would, we cannot really say much about the value for money of preferred membership benefits!
Suffice to say, ours was more than ample, we loved it, we enjoyed it immensely and slept with no noise or other interruptions every single night!
The 5 Star Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa Experience:
We have had quite a few All-inclusive experiences, and as Platinum Members of DreamTrips we expect the best and then some! Yet the Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa all inclusive should be called “Unlimited Luxury.” At every turn there was someone asking after our day “Hola.” Asking if we are enjoying our stay and if you need anything. Seriously!
Housekeeping always left a nice note for us every day asking if we were comfortable and if we needed anything to just let her know. Thank you Josefina!
Every single day we found a new welcome design on our bed. Swans, Heart Shapes, with flower petals too, butterflies, curtain designs! Wow!
And every night our bed was turned down ready for sleep with Hershey’s Kisses or Dreams Branded Chocolates! That really caught our attention and made us feel special. It’s the “little extras” that make it special & clearly what makes the DreamsResorts experience unique and special.
Children all over the resort were having a total blast. It truly is the place for ultimate summer vacations
All-inclusive meant exactly that, from the moment you wake up you could eat and drink all day in a variety of locations on the resort. And a variety of themed days e.d. BurgerDay, Earth day, Dominican Day, etc. We tried 5 restaurants during our stay:
- The World Buffet – Our favourite and had the largest variety of foods we have ever encountered in an all-inclusive!
- The Italian – Another favourite – Ala Carte restaurant enhanced by Dominico…the world’s best waiter ever! 😉
- The French Restaurant.
- The Fish Restaurant and…
- The Japanese Restaurant, very popular but not one of our favs!
We absolutely loved the variety; natural tropical fruit smoothies, fruits, and juices every morning. Freshly baked breads & cookies, and the biggest surprise was the “African foods:” matooke in banana leaves, what we call Luwombo, tilapia fish, plantain, cassava, sweet potatoes, maize in its husks, what! We literally were like
“we could get used to this!”
Your children will go crazy with the available all day snacks; cakes, cookies, ice cream on tap, frozen yogurts, Chocolate, and mock tails on offer. Be sure to regulate what they take. They also have a variety of children’s activities and adult ones too, including beach Zumba, water volley ball, Bingo, Beach Olympics, and Dance exercises to keep you in shape. In the evenings they have shows for all ages including teenie disco. There is the Casino, and adult disco too!
We also loved that Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa offers free Wi-Fi all over the grounds including the beach. Great for those social shares, Scopes and Facebook Live shows lol! Or pen a quick blog via Google-docs or Evernote!
Delicious snacks are served all day along the beach front including the Largest Burgers we ever saw! Oh yeas they beat the “Cardiff Burger” which you can check out here! Great food, Amazing Spa experiences to spend your $200 resort credits, heavenly! Enjoy exclusive toiletries, Jacuzzis, amazing grounds for walks, tennis courts, well equipped gym, and Cherry on top an exclusive Beach side location with the clearest blue waters we ever saw! For those in the preferred club you can access 2 private infinity pools one of them beach-side. And one for adults only!
And by the way you can grab some Dominican trinkets in the Resort Shops where there are great snacks too, like you even need snacks lol! We grabbed some organic cocoa, OMG it tastes delicious. You could head over to the Lil-shacks on the beach literally next door for some crazy bargains! Find a guy named Juan, he gave us some great ones and almost killed us with his humour!
Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa Exclusive Dinning!
Aside from the amazing varied daily world buffet, if you wanted you could choose an exclusive beach side breakfast or a Special Romantic dinner by candle light on the beach! Another way to spend your Resort credits. But we so wanted the spa experience so, maybe next time! We did go on the beach at night and simply sat and watched the waves lapping and stars with a couple of Dirty Bananas, Pina Coladas, Mohitos, mimosas, we tried different ones! You gotta taste these cocktail yummm!
You can also have room service anytime at no extra cost whatsoever. Esp. if there is a tropical storm about and you don’t fancy running through the rain! We did have breakfast in our room a couple of times! Awesome variety and served with such panache!
We commend the resort staff, real genuinely attentive, but not in your face. They made sure that guests receive everything they need to enjoy their stay esp. meals!
Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa Amenities:
Well we have kinda mentioned most of the amenities we saw or used at Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa, but lets zone in on a couple of things here!
While this is not an amenity it’s a pleasure and curiosity for most esp. if you have never been on an African Safari, to see Live Flamingos walking on the grounds of the Resort.
In addition, Dreams La Romana has a Tour Office behind the lobby where various Tour and travel companies do promote the beautiful and amazing places to see on the Dominican Island. This included Hola Tours. Which was linked to Holiday Taxis, the company that was in charge of our airport transfers. We didn’t find the rep Pedro of any real help, he was more interested in getting us to book a tour! Pity because he is nothing to do with the resort as such! And…
This was the only uncool bit: The tour companies fees we found were a wee bit hiked. For instance, we booked a catamaran tour to Saona Island at $55/person at the Gri Gri Dive shop right on the beach. Hola Tours in the tour shop, quoted it at $85/person, claiming that they have extra insurance for the tourists…! Even when we said we were fully insured, the tour Rep, said it was a standard fee! Other hotel guests had the same experience with other tour reps in the office. Though these are not Resort promotions, still Management must know about it…! This is about the only thing we could say that wasn’t so great about our experience.
Now back to the good….
There is an In-house 24/7 Medical service and a Doctor on Call!
Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa also features Tennis Courts, 4 swimming pools two of which are for preferred guests, (Most of whom ended up on the beach in the ocean lol.) 4 Jacuzzis 2 of which are part of the Spa, A Gym, Sauna and Steam Rooms in a tropical Zen atmosphere, where you can be pampered to your hearts content and even have your hair done at the in-house salon! We were thrilled with the Spa & Fitness Facilities.
They also have several ample meeting, party and conference facilities. A Casino, an On Resort Discotheque. Night time brings all kinds of fun for all ages including cirque du soleil-like performances in the theatre. Or you can watch movies under the Stars.
Even the youngsters will enjoy a bet with “funny-money” which they can use to buy trinkets in the resort theatre!
There are several Wedding-worthy spaces right on the beach.
There are food/snacks and drinks bars scattered all over the resort.
No less than 7 restaurants
An Explorer’s Club just for the little ones, teens disco and overnight camping on the beach, can be arranged Woot! Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa is truly magical!
