Pkjulesworld Doubletree by Hilton Chester Hotel and Spa Review by Customers!

Man, we had so many ideas, the young Pkjulesworld members were suggesting all kinds! To be honest falling on a Wednesday, middle of a working week…a getaway for Paul did not seem to be on the cards…

Plus, we spent our wedding anniversary at a Doubletree by Hilton hotel, we thought we would have a nice family meal out… Until our friends suggested a group Valentines Getaway, and the winner was the Doubletree by Hilton Chester…

The idea was to have a total relaxation 3 day away with 3 other couples, whose details we shall keep private.

We hoped we would have as much fun as we had at the Eforea Spa, whose review you can read about here! Or at the Arizona Conquistador Resort experience which we cannot recommend enough, and you can check out here!

So, did we love the experience? Might we make it a tradition? Well…

In this episode, we share our Doubletree by Hilton Chester Hotel review and Valentines experience. But more so, we would love to share our 3 days with you in arrears. 

Normally when we review a hotel. We look at various criteria which you will notice as we go.   

This was our Valentines celebration and couple’s get away! This followed a truly hectic January and Feb! So, a relaxed, de-stressing, spa getaway was right up our street!

We are true believers that life is meant to be enjoyed and lived as a gift, the present and who better deserves to enjoy the fruits of your labour than you?

And while we would usually find a fantastic deal in our own beautiful city of Liverpool and take our children too! On this occasion we decided to venture further out to Chester and got an amazing deal via SpaSeekers. 

So, we are not ones to hold out on you, and without further ado we went all in to enjoy this experience, and share with you!  In this case we share our @pkjulesworld rating based on the following criteria:

Our Customer Doubletree by Hilton Chester Hotel and Spa Review!

Our Pkjulesworld Overall Rating 9/10 and below are the details why!

Location – 9 / 10

Set out of the way in the affluent part of Chester, Cheshire is the Doubletree by Hilton Chester Hotel and Spa. This destination is about 45 minutes from our home and one can travel there by train as well. And of course, if you drive, which we did, there is plenty of Free parking for guests at this hotel!

A much welcome benefit as it was blowing a gale and freezing cold when we arrived! Top kudos for the Hilton umbrella, and trust me the car park was super busy, one can say packed!

Word to the wise, Don’t use the new Runcorn Bridge, unless you know your way round there…Even our SatNavs on phone and Garmin had no clue where we were headed…So try the old bridge! (Of course with time this will all be fine!)

Also the new bridge has a Toll to pay, that you must pay online or call them which we did! Otherwise it was a smooth road-trip for us!

Facilities and Service – 8.5 / 10

At first glance you would be right in thinking you just arrived at a Manor house for a lord! You wouldn’t be far off the mark!

The Doubletree by Hilton Chester hotel and Spa is predominantly a building that apparently dates back to the 1800’s. It is on 3-storeys and surrounded by 5 acres of greenery and grounds. It was recently extended from 97 to 203 rooms and Suites.

Once you step inside, you are met with a spanking new, contemporary and modern foyer with a 24-hour reception desk. And we loved the atrium and seating area since we arrived I the day time and the warmth that embraced us from the freezing winter sleet was so welcome!

We can tell you that it did not feel too modern in such an old building. In fact, it complemented the beautiful manor style architecture around it! Which was once owned by pioneer balloonist Thomas Baldwin…This was very much reflected in our room décor.

We immediately felt that we were going to have a great time here! Mind you, we always have the mentality that fun is what you make it!

The staff at the front desk were very professional and friendly. But they also seemed extra busy, there was a queue of guests arriving every minute. It was a real busy day being Valentine’s day! We were checked-in in record time though they could not confirm our body massage booking…

Let’s talk about the Spa

The spa was ultra-busy this valentine’s week! The changing rooms are separate of course for ladies and gents! Paul conformed that the gents side also had

• Lockers for your valuables security.

• Benches to sit and get changed or simply relax after your spa experience, showers well stocked with soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion.

• There are hair driers which work pretty well. A bowl of cotton wipes and ear buds are provided for makeup removal or whatever. Large mirror for those selfies and make up lol!

• The room is well lit so we ladies can apply our makeup well!

The Spa is located in the basement of the Doubletree by Hilton Chester Hotel – Lots of glass surrounded by beautiful mosaic tiles. There is a Sauna, Hammam Steam rooms, and an Aromatherapy room.  Sensuous swimming, hydrotherapy and steam pool. It is spotlessly clean we must say! There is a huge jacuzzi room for want of a better name for it.

There is a relaxation space with deep soft beds and seats with lots of refreshing water. But we were having too much fun to use those beds!  Guess what; we found this almost at par with the Dreams La Romana Spa experience! How about that?

In fact, we can say this Spa is way bigger than the Eforea Spa in the Liverpool City Doubletree by Hilton hotel.

Like we said before, the spa was very much in use, possibly because the children were on half term break too. This did not take away the truly luxury experience, we all had, you can see some of the fun we had below!

Unfortunately, we could not have our pre-booked couples, full body massage… It seemed the Spa was over booked; two staff had called off sick and they couldn’t fit us in during our stay. We were promised that if anyone cancelled, we would be slotted in. Sadly, this did not happen.

That said, the Manager of the hotel Mr Shan Raja pulled all stops to ensure we had a fantastic time…More so when he learnt that one of our couple friends ended up in a room when they had paid for a suite…And they were very patient as they explained this to the staff at the check in desk!

We applaud Mr Shan for his professionalism and quickly handling the matter and the extras/upgrades we all received, more than made up for the faux pas above!

Character and Style – 8.5 / 10

It’s the attention to detail throughout the Double Tree by Hilton Chester Hotel & Spa that makes it special and why it will stand the test of time. The décor is classy not overbearing! The newer side where we had our Deluxe room was a fantastic idea. It brings the Manor house bang into the 21^st Century!

Stylized sitting space, a massive king size bed with melt on pillows. We honestly have not seen a bed this large in a hotel!

The bathroom was a good size with a large shower space enough for 2 people to have a shower simultaneously! The toilet had a real soft close lid. Cool lil gear type tap! Lots of towels and soaps. Not forgetting the shaving mirror!

The grounds are manicured, with a lake and lake house. It all looks very well tended to. That said, we expected more as you drive to the manor-like hotel! The car park takes up a large portion of the side of the hotel. Much needed facility we know…but hey-ho!

The walled garden is really well manicured, nice and very structured, with soft lighting in the night! It all adds up together nicely!

The Food

We had the opportunity to have an exclusive private dinner at the celebrated Marco Pierre White Restaurant. But I jump ahead of myself.

Our Valentines dinner was at The Garden Room and Terrace. This restaurant offers views over a serene walled garden and gives you a sense of security.

The menu offers you a sense of history as they give you the story of the provenance of the food and drink suppliers for the organic fresh food served there. 

We had our breakfasts in this restaurant too which was truly filing and tasty!

To be honest we had an equally amazing time in both restaurants…

We must say we had a bit of a wait for our Valentines meal…Yet when we did get served we did get a fantastic time and even Better deal! Thanks to the young man who did his best to make our evening a success his name is Darshin …(we think). He seemed to be in charge of orders at the Garden Restaurant on Valentines night!  

But…

How did we end up having a private Exclusive dinner?

Well like I said, one of us found that what they paid for and what they received were Kind of different! They approached management and the Duty Manager made every effort to move them into a different suite and met their expectations more.

He also made an offer of the meal as recompense…It was very classy. We felt like the VIP guests we all should feel like in a Hotel of this caliber and we enjoyed a truly great experience.

Marco Pierre Restaurant is a steak house, so our mains were steaks…With lots of healthy fresh salads, triple cooked fries, lots of breads and the wine flowed liberally…We had a ton of fun. We loved it, we are thankful to our Friends who shall remain anonymous and the management who made it possible!

Bung for your buck i.e. Value for money – 9 / 10

Well truly value for money at £297 for 3 days don’t you think! This Included full cooked breakfast, Deluxe Room, use of the Spa, Gym and the grounds. Plus of course free parking!

It also is family-friendly as we noticed several families with children enjoying a mid-week break too!

One small observation, the cleaning staff need to be a bit better trained! One of our friends asked for Ice and it was delivered in a clearly used, dirty Ice bucket! You could not miss the dirt, like something spilt in the bucket and dried on the sides!

And on one of our breakfasts we were sat at the same tables as we had had dinner on, now we did have a Valentines cake Red velvet cake…and there was still evidence of said cake on the table! So, the cleaning staff need to be trained better, or the supervisor needs to run a tighter ship!

Well, that’s it for now…

So, if you are ever in Chester, Cheshire you might consider the Doubletree by Hilton Chester Hotel and Spa for your stay, based on our experience.

There is nothing much we can say about this great Old Manor House. The Doubletree by Hilton Chester Hotel and Spa delivers and as Schwarzenegger said “We shall be back.”
