Summer for most means lots of fun times, BBQs, beaches, pool time, weekends away, spa dates, travel, parties and everything in between. This is it for us too and this year has been no different. We can say hand on heart we are so grateful that we get to live this life. Just recently, our close friends invited us to their 3rd wedding anniversary to the Chester Grosvenor Hotel, Chester.
On paper, this hotel looks amazing, when you look at its Trip Advisor images and reviews, you know you are going to have a treat, in old world English charm and décor.
Did it deliver on the charm? No spoilers here so read on…
Last October we had our couple’s get away and vision casting at the Formby Hall Golf Resort. We spent valentines at the Doubletree by Hilton hotel. So, we felt we were in for a treat having looked at other Chester Hotels.
This hotel is said to be a 5 Star hotel so somehow, we expected a Thermal Suite aka Pool, Jacuzzi, Sauna, Steam room the works…
We also seriously considered the Mill Hotel Spa in the same neighbourhood…and somehow, we got to experience both…Again No spoilers.
The idea was to have fun, celebrate our friends’ anniversary, unplug and release stress in a pool/Jacuzzi and a celebrated spa… Alas it wasn’t meant to be!
So, what exactly happened and did we love the experience? Might we make it a tradition?
In this episode, we share our Chester Grosvenor Hotel review and experience. More so, we would love to share our 2 days with you in arrears.
No place is ever as bad as they tell you it’s going to be. – Chuck Thompson
The Chester Grosvenor Hotel Review
As always, when we visit a hotel, resort, spa etc. We look at various criteria for review which you will notice as we go.
As you know by now, we are true believers that life is meant to be lived out loud, it is a gift, thus it’s called the present and who better deserves to enjoy the fruits of your labour than you?
On this occasion we decided to venture closer to home in Chester.
At a price point of £162 per room per night we expected amazing things for a “Double Room” including breakfast! The equivalent of $201/room/night.
We did not book via our go to for spa deals SpaSeekers! Rather we booked via Booking.com.
We are sure you are chomping on the bit as to what amazingness we got at that price. So, lets take a walk through what we got and experienced!
As always, we share our @pkjulesworld rating based on the following criteria:
- Location
- Facilities and services
- Character and style
- Bung for your Buck and
- The Good and Overall Room for Improvement
- Overall Rating… and, here goes…
Our Grosvenor Hotel Chester Review
Our Pkjulesworld Overall Rating 7/10 and below are the details why!
Location – 8 / 10
Set out bang on the high street of Chester town shopping district, opposite the likes of Next, New Look, Russel Bromley etc. is the Chester Grosvenor Hotel and Spa. This destination is about 35 minutes’ drive from our home and one can get there by train too.
If you drive, which our friends did, you park at the front of the hotel (if you find a space) and hand over your keys to one of the many door men. They park your car in the Grosvenor hotel parking, shared with the retail shopping centre next door.
Parking costs £10/day included in the hotel price. Since this hotel is bang in the middle of the town, top kudos for this provision, or it would be a nightmare for guests to find own parking.
The town was super busy, and of course your car parked for you is an extra touch of luxury/customer care.
The location for the tourist cannot be faulted. Shopping, site seeing, transport all spot on…For someone looking for peace and quiet, spaciousness, grounds, you would be in the wrong place.

At first glance you would be right in thinking you just arrived at the Manor house for a Lord!
The Chester Grosvenor is a building that apparently dates back to the 1850’s. It is a Grade 11 Listed Building owned by the Duke of Westminster. It is on 4-Floors, surrounded by acres of shops and retail establishments housed in similar real estate, literally supporting the Chester Town wall.
The hotel comprises of 80 Rooms Inc. Deluxe and Executive Suites.
Once you step inside, you are met with a modern yet distinctly classy old-world charm in the foyer, with a 24-hour reception desk.
There are not many seats in the foyer although you will be met with lovely aromas from the Michelin Star rated restaurant on your left (Michelin 2009 – 2019).
We noted the sweeping stairway and massive chandelier right off the First floor. It felt and looked just right in such an old building. In fact, it complemented the beautiful manor style architecture around it!
The staff at the front desk were professional and friendly. We were checked in in record time and headed straight for our “Double Room” which was on the 4th floor. We couldn’t wait to see it… Suffice to say we were super wowed by the size of the bed (It was Huge, could sleep 4 comfortably). Bathroom had the old world charm too.
The rest of the room was okay, with tea making facilities, milk in a branded bottle in the fridge, everything else was similar to other hotels
It was functional, definitely stood its ground compared to other establishments we have been to like the DoubleTree by Hilton not far off, the Arizona Conquistador Hilton Golf resort, The Budapest Corinthia, The Beverly Hills Hilton etc.
But our friends, the Anniversary celebrants who had booked a SUITE had a whole other experience…
Their suite seemed to have flies all over, granted it was a warm humid summer day, we thought oh well, it is not ideal but hopefully they would go away as it got cooler in the night… Nope they didn’t, more and more kept coming in WTH….
After our dinner which was an experience as well, we were called to give our celebrants company due to the flies ordeal and worry…
We arrived to a suite with lots of annoying flies… Having grown up in Africa, we thought oh well, mere insects we can kill them all and have a bit of fun. We put on some music, poured some wine and danced between killing flies. It was surreal…the windows were heaving with these creatures…What the heck was going on?
We will Not SHARE those IMAGES for Purposes of propriety.
About midnight, 3 men barged into the suite saying there was too much commotion going on. They ordered us to switch off the music and everything. We were shocked and a wee bit petrified by their entrance…the “bride” was inconsolable.”
Long story short, we went to the reception desk, explained our friends’ predicament and asked they be moved to another suite asap. Fortunately, this was actioned immediately and they were moved to a super Executive suite called the Alderbridge Suite…
The hotel ownership and management need to re-visit their environmental and housekeeping practices. Those flies were massive and too many. In a SUITE…!
And the next morning one of the staff who was called to change the bedding in their new suite, used a cloth to wash the glasses and then used the same cloth to wipe down the sinks and god knows what else… We were too shocked to even say anything. We felt sick jeez.
The hotel has Wi-Fi all over for guests free of charge. Although it just didn’t seem to be strong enough in some places say for a live-stream.
The parking of guests’ cars by the Grosvenor hotel door men is a touch of class and of course saves the hotel guests from looking and paying for parking as an extra cost.
Let’s talk about the Spa and Non-existent Thermal Suite! 5/10
Paul is a stickler for attention and he went off to check out the spa as we had lots of time before dinner. He and the “groom” Found that the spa was lacking one major component for a hotel to be considered “FIVE STAR”. There was no swimming pool, nor Jacuzzi. All that was offered in the Chester Grosvenor spa was:
- Various massages
- Aromatherapy and…
- A Sauna.
Plus, the whole “spa suite” closes at 6pm! WHAT? So, most guests would miss this if they arrived past 4:30pm unless they rushed straight to it…!
We love the thermals: pool. Jacuzzi, steam room etc…and we couldn’t understand this… So, we asked at the front desk and we were informed that The Grosvenor hotel, Chester is a “RED 5-STAR” hotel! Apparently, an establishment s allowed to miss 1-2 components that make a 5-Star rating as long as they meet all other ratings at 5-Star standard… #confused? We too! ☹
We slept on it ad the next day we requested that we be refunded our Spa fee so we could go elsewhere. We also were wondering where else the flies of the “Suite” above had been visiting and laying eggs, so we didn’t really wish to us the onsite spa.
Fortunately for us, the Spa manager called the sister hotel: The Mill Hotel Spa to accommodate us for the day at no extra cost. For that we are totally thankful and give her and the Grosvenor hotel top marks. So we did have a relaxed day in a pool, frolicked and got thermal massage in a Jacuzzi, and sweated out the toxins in a Sauna.
We will talk about the experience in a post of its own, so keep your eyes peeled.
We applaud the Grosvenor Hotel, Spa manager’s professionalism and quickly handling our inquiry and making sure we were served!

Character and Style – 9 / 10
It’s the attention to detail at any hotel that we look for. The Chester Grosvenor hotel décor has a touch of the old-world English charm, though not overbearing! The golf high street view side where we had our room was okay. We didn’t hear any road noise nor shoppers chatter. Means they have nailed the noise reduction, bringing the Manor house bang into the 21st Century!
Stylized sitting on the landings facing the gigantic chandelier that apparently costs 6k/mo to clean adds a touch of glitz to the hotel. The massive king size bed with melt on feather down pillows. We honestly had a good night sleep when we got to our beds and so we are thankful for that.
The bathroom was a good size with a shower/bathtub in one and a separate bidet. A cool touch that is no longer common in hotels. A massive hot towel rail, shaving mirror, hair dryer and lots of branded Elemis bath accessories. Awesome.
Lots of towels, 2 branded bathrobes and slippers, plus soaps. Not forgetting the large mirror and lighting good for shaving as well!
The room had a wardrobe, ironing board with iron, a safe and lots of hangers.
The plumbing made a weird gurgling sound when you run the tap in the sink…Might be an isolated room thing or the hotel plumbing is as ancient as the hotel building.
Our friends’ suite was huge. The first one was just a large room with a screen separating seating space with a two-seater sofa and a couple of chairs and tables, from the bed space.
The Executive suite they were moved to was a whole “apartment.” A separate dining and entertainment lounge with full furnishings. Including tea making facilities, a flat screen TV and Bose speaker, dining table with 4 chairs and lots of seating. A party room, we utilized it fully.
It had a separate toilet and a bathroom suite with a separate shower, deep soak in bath tub, his and hers sinks, lots of space.
The bedroom space was a room of its own through a walk thru wardrobe corridor, the size of our “double room.” With another flat screen TV and lots of storage, chairs for seating and space all round it. No flying insects for sure.

Bung for your buck i.e. Value for money – 8 / 10
Well we felt kinda short changed when we saw the “Spa Suite.” And though the breakfast was ample and had a touch of class i.e. served breakfast. It just lacked the Michelin Star taste in our humble opinion and the servers took their blessed time to serve guests.
We only could have cereal, fruit/yogurt, tea and bread as part of the “room price!”
A cooked full English breakfast cost an extra £9.99/person plus taxes!!
Why the heck don’t they just add that to the room price and serve people a full English if thats what they wish to have?
This makes it a not so exciting B&B. We have had breakfast at simple B&Bs, at Premier Inns, Staybridge Suites etc. with far more variety and better tasting breakfast!
We had really expected way more at a Michelin Star rated restaurant and 5-Star hotel!
As earlier stated, we paid £162/rm/day for a 2-night stay…Value for money? Not if you consider the lack of a Thermal suite in a 5-Star Trip Advisor rated hotel and the limited choice breakfast.
Not compared to other establishments we have been to.
For instance, we paid £267 total for 3 nights at the Doubletree by Hilton. This included a birthday dinner, full cooked buffet breakfast, Deluxe double room facing beautiful expansive grounds. Full use of the Spa, Gym, full Thermal suite with Jacuzzi, sauna, Hammam steam rooms and swimming pool. And the grounds are amazing. Plus, we got a Fantastic Exclusive Dinner for our party! Plus of course free parking! Yep, in the £267 all in price!
It also was family-friendly as we noticed several families with children enjoying a mid-week break too! The Grosvenor looked pretty much an adult people hotel.
The Chester Grosvenor FOOD- Dinner:
Pkjulesworld 4 Chillies
The food was cooked to perfection and we were also given a complimentary boatload of a variety of breads with butter. Thing is, we took these as starters, so ordered our mains immediately after thinking we did not need the menu listed starters after eating the bread. We were so wrong!
See, we had looked forward to the dinner so much so, we had fasted for the day… And…
Well, the mains portions were toddler sized and were dwarfed by the huge plates. Like a drop of decoration in the middle. It all looks so well presented…yet, seriously, a hungry toddler might find the mains portions lacking in size. At a minimum of £23.50 + VAT that is, Michelin star prices. 😊
That said, the taste and aromas could NOT be faulted at all. And we reckoned that if we had eaten a full starter, a main, a dessert plus the breads, we may not have minded those portions.
Suffice to say we recommend you order a starter, a main, a dessert and palate cleanser to have a full meal… And you might still feel like a bowl of chips could finish the meal off!!!
We would have given a full 5 Chillies if the breakfast was buffet style or full English as an option with your room rate. And the dinner mains portions a wee bit more generous.
Is the Chester Grosvenor Value for Money?
Frankly speaking for a touch of old world charm, the Chester Grosvenor reminded us of the Blackpool Britannia which we went to on our 10th Anniversary years ago.
It is a wee bit on the higher side if you KNOW exactly what you are getting i.e. a 5-Red-Star Hotel. The Michelin Star food is spot on though. If they can serve a full range of breakfast in the price and hopefully the flies were a one off occurrence. You would enjoy your stay at the Grosvenor Hotel, in Chester.
On that note, know that you can still go out there, Do You and Be Great, until we put Pen to e-paper again! 😉

Thank you for your honest review. The hotel looks very luxurious.
Interesting. I feel bad for your friends!
The hotel interiors look really pretty. The chandeliers are so beautiful. I like that service of the door men parking your car for you. I just hope they pay attention to the complaint about flies. And to update their list of ammenities. If something’s not there, then they should not have published it.
I appreciate that you bold the information that I’m looking for as well as highlighting things. It allows me to get a good grasp on whether I’d want to stay there!
Liked your honest review. Loved the spa part, seems interesting. Maybe look for a stay there once. I enjoyed reading your article, very good judgements.
Looks like an amazing place to stay. I will add this to my bucketlist for sure
What a nice hotel! I would definitely want to stay there if I was in the area. How pretty!
This was a very honest review. I was totally not expecting the fly situation. Hopefully, it was just a one time problem.
Let’s hope they improve upon these mistakes Hannah 😀
This seemed like such a good review until I got to the spa-part xD And the flies in the suite the other people booked :O
concise, detailed and honest review. wonderful hotel.
Thanks for an honest review. I’m like you and I like a spa with a pool and jacuzzi so I’d have been disappointed at that. Also the flies would really have put me off – I think your friends were very reasonable putting up with it as I’d have complained straight away.
I wish all the hotels I’m staying have this kind of description.
Next time you go to one I’m sure there will be a review online like this one for you to check out 😀 !!
I’ve heard so much about the Grosvenor hotel in Chester but never been! I would love to check in there for a few days.
That’s a bummer about the spa! The rest sounds great, though!
Such a lovely review post. It seems you had a wonderful stay here.
Looks like that was one heck of an experience for you to stay there. I’d love to spend a night or two!
This just serves as a reminder that I do not travel enough.
You do only live once Amber! Get out there and live life to the fullest 😀 !!
It does look quite beautiful from the outside and the inside. I love the picture of the hotel entrance that you posted. The street looks so charming. Looks like there might be quite a lot of things to do there. When I rent a hotel, it’s usually just to sleep. We don’t spend much time in them. As long as the bed is comfortable and the shower is hot! 🙂
That is fair and understandable Margaret, many people feel this way, I just thought I would share my opinion on the so-called 5-star experience this hotel claimed to offer. 😀
Your review is remarkable and detailed. The hotel looks classy. I love how make it so that one knows what to expect should one decide to visit.
Thank you so much for reading Olufunke 😀 !!
I travel a lot and stay at many 5-star hotels. From your review of the services or lack thereof, there is no way this hotel should be considered a 5-star. It is a hotel I would not stay at now that I have read about your experience. Thanks for your honest review.
You are quite right Sally, The hotel sadly wasn’t worthy of its rating. I always choose to be wholly honest with my reviews so if thats what you’re looking for, here I am. Thanks for reading Sally 😀 !
Sad to hear that it doesn’t reach your expectation. Thanks for the very honest and detailed review. It really matters.
Thank you so much Jhentea, It really means a lot 😀
I can’t believe the hotel does not have a pool. Like, why? And the spa closes that early? I usually want to go in the early evening so that I could “sleep like a baby” afterwards. That would probably turn me off with this hotel, and the toddler sized meal! Oh no.
Very thorough review thank you very much! If I ever went there this will definitely come in super handy!
I hope you get a chance to go to Chester, It’s beautiful. I hope my review can help with you along your way too 😀
the hotel looks wonderful! very attractive and cozy! I’d totally stay!
It always uplifts my spirits to stop by your blog and read your writings.
Aww Thank you so much for the support Olya, I really do appreciate it 😀 !
7, 8 and 9 over 10 reviews, these are amazing!!! I need to check this hotel out for sure.
I like this kind of reviews. They are honest. The place looks classic.
Thank you for reading Jessica, be sure to check out my other reviews !! 😀
What a candid and thoughtful review! Thanks for your candor!
Thank you for reading Chelsea 🙂
The place looks quite classy. Very honest and detailed review.
What a fantastic review! Will have to check out this hotel on my next visit!
I hope the visit goes well for you Jay 😀 !
Thanks for the review, your blog makes it seems like I already went there hehe.
I’m so happy that’s how this blog makes you feel, thank you for reading Fuzion Mag!!
It’s the best review I’ve read so far.. Everything was so detailed that I could imagine myself having the same impression if I was there.
what a lovely view, I have never heard of this hotel before ill have to check it out.
It was a great view 😀 , Thanks for reading Bellab
Thanks to your review. I would love to visit the The Chester Grosvenor Hotel
Thanks for reading Lavern, I hope if you go, you enjoy it ! 😀
I love how honest your hotel reviews are. The Chester Grosvenor looks pretty alright – I’m headed to the UK this year so I’ll keep it in mind for my trip.
Thank you for reading them Erin 🙂 ! Fingers crossed by the time you visit they have rectified their issues
I have never been to England and I don’t know if I would even get a chance to do so. But I still like reading reviews on hotels and accommodations in places I dream of visiting. Thank you for your thorough and honest review of this hotel. I hope if and when the time comes that I will be able to stay in this hotel, there will be no more flies!
I love doing the same thing Eileen, Hopefully you will visit England and if you choose this hotel, it has improved by that time 😀
Looks like an awesome place to stay in Chester. I’d love to check it out. Looks absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I hope that if you try it, you enjoy the experience Margaret, please do share with us if you do 😀
This doesn’t sound like very good experience. Thank you for sharing it with us x
You’re welcome Laura, hopefully they fix these issues soon !
I appreciate your honesty in this review. Would certainly take not to what you said here. I think it’s still a pretty good hotel tho.
Love how you are rating everything from 0/10, might adapt this system myself! Thanks for sharing your Review, probably I won’t stay at this Hotel..
It’s nice to review wherever you go after you’ve been and 0/10 is an easy method of doing so, Thank you for reading Joy 🙂
Great review. I am curious, how was the food at this particular establishment? Did they have any restaurants or any good room service?
The food was average British food, and we didn’t order for room service so i’m really sorry that i can’t help you with that one. Thank you for reading though Sarah 😀
Sounds like a great place to stay. Will have to check this hotel out the next time I’m visiting!
I really hope you have a great experience with it if you do try it out ! 😀
8/10 ain’t so bad but I HATE when hotels promise things that they don’t have! We just experienced a total SCAM in Panama and the resort totally got a 3/10 for us, ugh… So I understand your disappointment about the thermal suite, especially if you were really looking forward to it!
Thanks for this review. I was there before and booked it via http://www.privateupgrades.com as they gave several benefits. I now looked it up again and they do not have it anymore bookable. I called my Travel Designer there and had been told that the hotel is now charging to use the SPA which was free for members before plus exactly the same critic you had about the SPA. A pitty as in gerneral it is a very nice hotel and the best one in town.
That’s so sad Gernot, however it just to show that great deals are time-bound so we can’t rely on them being around forever while we make our minds up 😀 !
I always like your reviews. They are honest and detailed! I am sorry for your spa but yes, the manager was pretty cool. That is some very active customer service! 🙂
Sorry that they didn’t have the spa or really didn’t do anything with it. But the rest of your stay looks like it was pretty good for the most part. I loved the look of it honestly.
This hotel seems nice. Great that there was plenty of Wi Fi. Great that you shared all the pros and cons so that we know what to expect when visiting.
It’s great to get a review of a hotel with so many photos. This looks like a very nice place to stay if we’re in Chester.
I hope you try it at some point, Thanks for reading Angela 😀
The photo of the landing area looks amazing. I love the old english style. It’s a shame that the meals were small though!
Every hotel has its ups and downs, we just have to weigh them up 😀
This is a good and honest feedback. I actually like this place a lot. It’s neat and pretty classy.
Travel is everything for me right now , so so happy you guys review places ! Best to get to know what your getting into before you book it !
I’m so glad our reviews help you out :D, thanks for reading
sonya
Oh my gosh, this hotel looks so elegant. I would love to stay there.
If you’re ever in Chester you should try it out 😀
Found this review really honest and helpful – we have been wanting to visit Chester for a while and considered this hotel but as you pointed out it doesn’t seem that family-friendly and I have two young boys so may not go for this option. Also a shame about the Spa and breakfast although does look like a beautiful setting and location
Laura x
Thanks for reading this review Laura, I hope you still go to Chester but maybe try a different hotel that’s more family friendly
I felt like I was watching a vlog review by reading your blog. It’s such a great review, very detailed and honest. Thanks for sharing..!
This place looks like a place to add to the list. I love a hotel with a good spa.
I always hate it when restaurants have toddler-sized portions and charge heavily. However, I must say that I like the ambience of this hotel.
Thanks for this review, I hope that they’d improve these things once they read your blog. I will keep this for future reference. 😘
I hope that this does help you in the future 😀 , thanks for reading Dreaming
Great review! Some things need to be spoken to the hotel about before I guess like the parking etc , but there are always surprises !
Yeah definitely, not everywhere is perfect but if they could improve on these things that would be great 😀
I appreciate your honestly with your review- that’s why I always trust your reviews because your so real!
You surely had fun with all the amenities and luxuries of this hotel. It will be nice to experience it first hand.
Thanks for being honest with your review! This place sounds like it would be really cool to go to and the one picture I saw makes it look amazing!
You’re very welcome Ashley. Thanks for reading 😀
Looks like a lovely location but not sure if it would be within my price range.
I’m sure that one day you will go to a place even more beautiful, Think AMAZING Jess, Thanks for reading!! 😀
Looks like a nice place to stay, well there’s nothing perfect but I hope you had a great time.
Thanks for reading Mommy Bloggers 😀
This is such a good place. You’r review is very right. the interior of this hotel is luxurious. I can stay here for my whole life if i got a lot of money. LOL Thank you for this very real and accurate review!
The prices seems way to high for the guest facilities and a fly infestation for free. I would never stay at a place where the housekeeping staff don’t apply basic hygiene rules when doing their daily cleaning, so thanks for the heads up.
Looks so very nice hotel in Great Britain. Looks so welcoming on those photos. Thanks for sharing your experience.
So welcoming, so pretty! I would definitely stay there as well if I had a chance (when?)
Oh my, that’s ridiculous.. I can’t imagine a suite that has flies on it. That is very confusing.. Otherwise, they have a good customer service, so
the experience wasn’t that bad. Just hopefully, when they read reviews like this, they’ll work on improving it.
hopefully they do work on fixing the fly issue because it was actually a really nice place otherwise 😀
Looks amazing, but I can’t imagine all the flies!! In a suite none-the-less! Thanks for sharing all the details!
the flies really were a bummer but other than that a fair stay 😀
That is a really good review! This gives me so much reason to go there. I would love to visit this soon!
I really hope you do!! 😀
OMG, flies in a suite? 😕😑 Gosh! Glad they offered a new executive suite for your friends! Loved reading your honest review of this hotel ☺
The Chester sounds rather expensive by name alone. Glad it had some high points to make up for some of the low points.
yeah, it was a great stay but it had its highs and lows
hotel looks welcoming and pretty enough for me. I would definitely enjoy its hospitality as well
Your overviews of this hotel are so thorough and they give so much good infomation.I will def have to add this to my list
It is hard to find a perfect place for everyone) it is possible to find such a thing for a particular person or a family. This place looks like a perfect destination to stay for you and … I’m sure for many other people.
It’s a shame that the spa was not available when you went. That’s always a bummer. It happened to me when I went to a spa weekend as well in Spain. I did get a partial refund for that.
Looks like a pretty luxurious space. I’d probably stay there if I could afford it.
Adreanne, I’m sure one day you will go to an even more luxurious space 😀
love it that ita near everyday esseniAls and so much more. and you’re right, those wanting peace might look for other options
Sounds like a wonderful place to stay. Thank you for the thorough review of this hotel.
The 4 Chillies seem high but it didn’t really seem like you had a great time when you read the review. I think you were too kind with the points given your experience.
Although I wouldn’t mind the spa. I find spa rates for hotels, completely unreasonably priced. So I usually go outside for that.
I will definitely take that into consideration next time crickette, thanks so much for reading 😀 !!
this looks like a great place to stay and your review was awesome and informative!
The Chester Grosvenor Hotel sounds like a place that we would enjoy staying. If we’re ever in the area, we’ll definitely consider staying there.
That’s amazing Heather i hope you enjoy staying there 😀 !!
This sounds like a fabulous place to visit!
It really was rachel 😀 !!
Woooow such a good review on the Grosvenor.. It also looks so nice. It makes me realize I need to go spoil myself next month. I need something like this.
Flies in a suite would have been the last straw for me, nope not going to happen. I’m glad they got a new upgraded room though.
That was a very detailed and honest review. Thanks for sharing!
What a great and detailed review. Looks like you guys had tons of fun during your stay except for those moments like the flies issues. Sounds like a great hotel to visit though I hope they some those problems first.
It really was a pleasant stay, hopefully they do fix the problems 😀
i like how you review it in such a way that you laid its busy place thus a more tranquil ambiance isnt at all expected. you laid it so neatly.
Thank you so much Berlin 😀
Your review is so helpful. You are very honest. I hope your review can reach the management so they can improve the service they are giving. But honestly The hotel is beautiful and you rate it right in that thing <3
I love your reviews for they are so honest. Sorry about the terrible time you had but thank you for saving others from the same!
I like it when people are honest about their feedback. It helps a lot of people to know the ups and downs of services/products. Still looks like a pretty nice hotel to me.
Honest reviews are the ones I love the most, they give you all the pros and all the cons!! Thanks for reading Ruth 😀
sounds like an awesome hotel! i love learning first hand real experiences from others. if ever get to that area i will def check out this place.
It was quite a good hotel to be fair, I hope that if you try it out you will enjoy it 😀
Seems like you had a terrible experience.
Thanks for sharing it, we should be careful, as we have an upcoming plan.
I absolutely LOVE staying in Chester! Next time I return, I’ll have to try out the Grosvenor. I did the London one and loved it.
What a great comprehensive review ! I would definitely consider staying here next time I’m in the area.
That’s great Emily, I hope you enjoy staying there if you do 😀
What a BEAUTIFUL hotel!! I loved all the decor!
Thanks for reading Brianna 😀 !!
Liked the way you have covered both the good and the bad part of the hotel. Honest opinions with ratings and comparisons. Will definitely help those who want to stay at the hotel.
The hotel looks lovely only except the spa part. Thanks for sharing the detail review
You are so welcome Sudipa, thanks for reading 😀
This hotel looks amazing! It’s unfortunate that they didn’t give you what was included in the Spa package you wanted. However it’s great that they accommodated you at their sister hotel.
Exactly, they had a problem and they fixed it, i’m super happy with the customer service jasmine 😀
The Chester Grosvenor Hotel sounds like a great place to stay. I hope to see this soon. It looks very clean!
I hope if you try it out you will enjoy it 😀 !!
The hotel looks lovely, too bad about the spa part though. These days there are so many services offered at other hotels, they need to step up to compete favourably in the market.
Ooops! It’s so unfortunate when things and services that are non-existent in a hotel help to lure people seeking accommodation. I would get so disappointed. Worse off, since packing is an issue and the hotel is just right in the middle of a busy city, I wouldn’t appreciate it. I always prefer hotels located deeper within large, serene and quiet setups
I love reviews that are thorough as this because it helps travelers in future trips. I was confused of that red 5 start rating too and actually the first time to hear about it.
Thank you so much for reading it Geemiz, I always try to keep my reviews as thorough as possible for anyone that needs to make a choice on hotels 😀 !!
Nice post and I do love your honest review about this hotel but I still find this hotel a beautiful place for a stay even without a SPA or JACUZZI.
This looks like a very classy hotel. Love the classic look of the interior! Definitely my taste
It really was classy, a very good choice indeed!! 😀
Nnniiiicccceeeeeee…..I will surely check out more reviews about this hotel!
I hope one day you try it out ! 😀
Interesting that the spa was lacking one major component for a hotel to be considered “FIVE STAR”. There was no swimming pool, nor Jacuzzi. There were only massages, aromatherapy, and a sauna. Awesome review!
It’s too bad that the spa isn’t great there. That would be important to me as well!
This is such a honest hotel review. That hotel looks really good and I am actually okay if they doesn’t have a spa I can really live without that as long they have offer a body massage.
A 7 out of 10 rating doesn’t seem too bad … your photos of the location make it look beautiful … but it is too sad about the spa.
It is sad about the spa but the hotel overall was great 😀
It definitely sounds like the housekeeping needs an upgrade, especially with the flies. That’s usually a sign that there is a piece of food hiding somewhere that they’ve used as a breeding ground.
Ooo that doesn’t sound too nice Art, next time i’ll ask to move rooms if i have the same problems
This sounds like a nice hotel over all. Believe it or not, the difficulties you had are what sold me on this one. Every hotel will have a problem of some sort. It’s what that hotel does to rectify it that makes it a great one.
You are actually quite right Colleen, if a hotel is responsive to feedback it can actually be a great plus for them 😀
thanks for this review.
Thanks for reading Sadia 😀 !!
This is why these reviews are a life saver. Some hotels are only elegant on the outside but very poor services offered.
Elizabeth you must always check reviews on hotels you are going to stay in, looks can sometimes be deceiving!! 😀
The hotel looks beautiful but it sounds like the experience should have been a lot better. I’m sorry to hear about your friends room with the flies.. I honestly would have let as soon as I saw them. As for the men barging in the suite.. I would have flipped out! It sounds like your friends deserve a refund.
thank you for sharing this one it is really rare to find authentic reviews from bloggers but this one sounds really authentic. Thank you.
The looks and image of the hotel sometimes is what we are after only to find out that the facilities and services arent that all beautiful. this review is lesson learned to readers.
I would have not given the hotel such a high rating after all that happened in there. Wow! The price for the room was huge, I would not pay that anywhere in the UK. I stay at 5 stars hotels quite often, mostly at the Hilton, and never pay more than £120 a night for an executive room.
It sucks that the spa wasn’t that great! But at least the rest of the hotel was pretty good 🙂
Thanks for the review on this! This hotel looks extremely swanky!
Thank you Kiwi, i hope you enjoyed reading this 😀 !!
Awesome review. Gotta try this place out
I hope you do Shadrack 😀 !!
I love the interior of the hotel. Such a plush surroundings with a magnanimous furniture and accessories.
Wow, this hotel sounds pretty amazing! I will have to visit England someday for sure.
Interesting review. Great that the overall score of the hotel was 8/10. It’s important to know what to expect when going to a hotel.
I love historic hotels that maintain their Old World charm. It looks like you had a wonderful time!
Old world charm is really great in certain hotels, I really enjoyed staying there 😀 !!
I love all the pictures of the hotel. Thanks for the review. it seems like you had a great stay overall.
Thank you Patricia, I really liked staying there 😀
Great review, that hotel sounds like a great place to stay in. It’s a shame that there are no thermals(pool, jacuzzi etc.) there, I for one would have loved that.
I would have loved that too Lyanna, but oh well the hotel was still great 😀 !!
These kind of reviews are so helpful as I plan on staying at this very hotel!! Thanks for the insight!
You’re very welcome, thanks for reading Steph!! 😀
Kindly scared about the three men who barged into the suite. I am not truly comfortable which such happening and I might request for a transfer just for peace of mind.
It is sometimes hard to find a good place to stay. The combination of a price and value not always fair.
A beautiful review with attention to detail and opinion. Loved it. Very useful for those who seriously plan to go there.
Your review is so informative but I wish you shared more photos. Looking forward to more reviews.
What a lovely hotel. I love reading reviews on hotels. It makes me want to visit even more when they are so postive.
This is a great review, I love how truthful you were describing all the accommodations.
Thank you so much Patricia 😀
Wow. That is a lesson learned. I always try to read as many reviews as I can.
Glad you got some value Momma !
Must try hotel next time I visit England, thanks for such detailed and honest review of the hotel, helps everyone to take informed decision..!
thank you so much for reading, i hope if you do go to the Chester Grosvenor you enjoy it 😀
I never find the time to take advantage of a spa anyway, so that’s not a deal breaker for me, but I feel like they should be more upfront about what spa services they offer and when.
Definitely Art & Home, You should try out the spa more often 🙂 !
Wow, got to try this place out whenever I visit England! What can I do in Chester though?
Thank you so much for the honest review. It is bummer that there is no spa but to me it is okay, i can live without it for a few nights as long as the hotel is clean.
Sounds like there were some goods and bads with this hotel. Thank you for being so candid and giving us a great review
On this hotel.
Just like with everything krystal! 😀 You have to weigh the pros and cons of everything !! 😀
Overall, this sounds like a very poor experience. There were a few saving graces but too many negatives to be overlooked.
